Moving The Backyard Playset: What To Keep In Mind
If your children love spending time in the backyard, the idea of leaving behind their playset is sure to send them into an uproar. Fortunately, there is a way to safely and efficiently move these massive structures, but it does take some planning. Learn how to move a playset the correct way.
Check Its Condition
If the outdoor playset is much older than your youngest child, it's probably a good idea to check its condition before you make a firm decision on moving it. These playsets are exposed to the elements on an ongoing basis. Consequently, they are subject to all sorts of damage, including rust and rotting wood.
Wooden playsets are also susceptible to termite infestation. Not only does this type of infestation make the playset unsafe, but a professional moving company will not move the structure for you until the infestation has been cleared. If you discover that the unit is just in too bad of a condition to salvage, maybe skip the idea of moving it and just replace it.
Inform the Moving Company
Don't play a surprise game with the moving company. You want to inform the agent working with you on your move ahead of time that you have a playset that you'd like to have moved. One reason informing the company is so important is that moving companies typically send out a crew based on the size of the home and number and types of household goods that need to be transported.
If you don't inform the moving company of the large outdoor set, the crew that shows up to your home might be underprepared. Not to mention, the cost of your move will likely need to be adjusted.
Disassemble Early
If you plan to disassemble the playset on your own, make sure you don't wait until the last minute to begin the process; the earlier, the better. You want to start early so that you can make sure you're able to take your time and put all the hardware for the playset in one location.
If you're in a rush, you're more likely to misplace some of these pieces. You will also need to leave some time to clean the playset. Similar to a pest infestation, if the set is excessively dirty, such as covered in mud, the moving company can refuse to transport it until it is cleaned.
