Have an upcoming move and looking for some tips to make the process easier? Here are some things that everyone should know as their moving day approaches.
Book Movers Far In Advance
While your moving day may seem far away, it's important that you book your movers as early as possible. Some days are more popular than others, such as the last day of the month when leases end. If you have to be out on a specific day, you'll want to book your moving day a month or two away to guarantee that you can get it. If not, you may be scrambling to make the move on your own with your own moving truck because you can't find available movers.
Avoid Taking Everything With You
Moving is a great time to purge through your belongings and get rid of everything that you do not need. Extra items are just going to add to the cost of moving in terms of buying boxes and packing material, and your movers are going to take more time moving things out of your old home and into your new one.
Plan To Empty Your Fridge
A common mistake that people make when moving is forgetting that food needs to come with them. This can result in a lot of things in your refrigerator that need to be thrown away or eaten because movers are not going to allow you to put food that can spoil in the back of their moving truck. Try to use up all your groceries so that you only have pantry items left to take with you.
Label Your Boxes With Their Destination
People often do a good job of labeling their boxes, but they label boxes with the wrong names. Instead of writing the name of the room that the items came from, write the name of the room that the box is going to. This will help your movers know exactly where to put a box when they get it since things may be going to new bedrooms, a basement, or a den that you didn't have before at your old place.
Disassemble All Your Furniture Prior To Your Moving Day
Another mistake people make is underestimating how long it is going to take to disassemble furniture. Always break these items down in advance so that they are easier to pack and move. If not, your movers will be waiting around to take your items that are not yet disassembled.
